This course situates international communication (IC) amidst the institutionalization of communication studies and provides a primer on the political economy of global communication and global media policy issues and trends, from Post WWII Bretton Woods to millennium neoliberal governance structures. Specific topics to be explored include feminist perspectives on IC, transnational activist networks, independent and community media, labor and globalization, communication rights, peace communication, and innovative uses of ICTs such as mobiles and WiFi.
